Ketegangan Arab-Israel Meningkat Akibat Serangan Udara di Suriah
Tensions are high in the Middle East after a series of major airstrikes carried out by Israel against Syrian territory. The situation has sparked a strong response from Arab and regional countries, voicing their solidarity with Syria and condemning any violation of its sovereignty.
According to Saudi Gazette (July 17, 2025), foreign ministers from 11 countries - Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Turkey, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Egypt - issued a joint statement after two days of intensive consultations. They emphasized their support for Syria's stability and rejected any external interference in its internal affairs.
The statement welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Sweida province and urged its full implementation to protect civilians, restore state authority, and preserve national unity. The ministers also praised President Ahmad Al-Sharaa's commitment to holding accountable those responsible for recent violence in the region, and supported the government's efforts in enforcing the law and promoting reconciliation.
They condemned the repeated Israeli airstrikes as a "clear violation of international law" and warned that such actions directly threatened Syria's sovereignty and risked destabilizing the region. The statement highlighted, "Syria's security is a fundamental pillar for broader regional peace and must not be compromised by ongoing hostility."
The participating countries also called on the international community to support Syria's reconstruction efforts. They further urged the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities, including ensuring the withdrawal of Israel from all occupied Syrian territories, halting violations, and implementing relevant UN resolutions, particularly UNSC Resolution 2766 and the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement.
Dukungan Internasional dan Diplomasi Arab
The statement concluded with a reaffirmation of the collective commitment to coordinated Arab diplomacy, placing Syria's sovereignty, unity, and long-term stability as top priorities. Meanwhile, Arab News (July 17, 2025) reported that Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs also expressed its condemnation of the Israeli attacks through an official statement on the X platform. The ministry expressed appreciation for the Syrian government's steps in maintaining security and stability, and called on the international community to support Syria in facing the continued violations by Israel.
Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, also discussed the situation with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Wednesday (July 16). This meeting took place after Israel launched airstrikes in Damascus, which destroyed part of the defense ministry building and hit areas near the presidential palace.
According to Arab News, these attacks represent a significant escalation against President Ahmad Al-Sharaa's government, despite the improving relations between his administration and the United States and the ongoing security communication with Israel.
Coinciding with these events, dozens of people were reported killed in clashes in Sweida city and its surrounding areas. The violence involved fighting between the Druze group, government security forces, and members of the Badui tribe.
